What this service covers

A quality installation starts before any equipment arrives: evaluating your home's cooling load, ductwork, insulation, and sun exposure so the new system is genuinely right-sized. Oversized units short-cycle and leave Charleston homes clammy; undersized units run flat-out and never catch up.

Installation day covers safe removal of the old equipment, correct refrigerant charging, condensate and electrical work to code, and full commissioning — verifying the system performs to manufacturer specification before we call it done.

Why it matters in the Lowcountry

In the Lowcountry, your air conditioner is arguably the hardest-working appliance you own, running the better part of eight months a year. The difference between a mediocre install and a correct one shows up every month on your power bill and every afternoon in your indoor humidity.

Modern high-efficiency systems also dehumidify far better when properly matched and commissioned — which matters more here than almost anywhere else in the country.

Signs it’s time to call

  • Your current system is 12–15+ years old and repairs are getting frequent
  • Cooling costs keep climbing even with normal use
  • The house never feels dry, even when it's cool
  • Some rooms are always warmer than others
  • The system uses an older, phased-out refrigerant

How the visit works

  1. Free replacement estimate

We evaluate your home and current equipment, then present options — good, better, best — with clear pricing. The estimate costs you nothing.

  2. System selection

We match equipment to your home's load, your budget, and your priorities (efficiency, humidity control, noise, zoning). As a Daikin partner we can speak to that lineup in detail, and we install other major brands as well.

  3. Installation & commissioning

Our installers remove the old system, set the new one to manufacturer specification, and verify charge, airflow, and performance before walking you through it.

  4. Registration & follow-through

We help register your equipment so factory warranties are fully in force, and we're a phone call away afterward.

What affects the price

Every home is different, so we quote in writing before work begins. The main factors:

  • System capacity and efficiency rating (SEER2)
  • Single-stage, two-stage, or variable-speed equipment
  • Ductwork condition — repairs or modifications add scope
  • Electrical, condensate, and code-compliance work the install requires
  • Equipment location: attic, crawl space, closet, or elevated platforms in flood-zone homes

Repair or replace?

A useful rule of thumb: when a repair estimate approaches a large fraction of replacement cost on a system past its expected life, replacement usually wins.

Efficiency matters too — a modern variable-speed system can cool and dehumidify a Charleston home noticeably better than equipment from the early 2010s.

We'll always price the repair alongside the replacement so you can decide with real numbers.

Keeping it running

  • Register your new equipment promptly — factory parts warranties often depend on it.
  • Pair a new system with a maintenance plan; annual tune-ups keep efficiency at rated levels and protect the warranty.
  • In salt-air neighborhoods, rinse the outdoor coil gently a few times a year and have it professionally cleaned annually.

AC Installation & Replacement: common questions

Is the replacement estimate really free?

Yes — free HVAC replacement estimates are a standing offer at Holy City Heating & Air. We come out, evaluate your home, and give you real numbers with no obligation.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We work with Goodleap, a home-improvement financing company that offers a variety of loan options and repayment terms. Ask us or see our financing page for details.

What brand do you recommend?

We're a Daikin partner and think highly of their lineup — including the Daikin Comfort Promise and their 12-year parts warranty on registered systems. That said, we size and install what fits your home and budget, not a one-brand-fits-all answer.

How long does an installation take?

Most straightforward replacements are completed in a day. Jobs involving ductwork changes, equipment relocation, or elevated installs in flood-prone areas can take longer — we'll tell you up front.
