3 Things To Know About Geothermal Systems

Imagine if you could enjoy a home comfort system that didn’t have to use fuel and only used a minimal amount of electricity to get the job done. Sounds pretty cool right? With a geothermal system, this is exactly what you’re going to get.

Geothermal systems are not as widely used as they could be, largely because they tend to be a bit more expensive to install. With that said, their long lifespan and incredible energy efficiency make up for that initial cost pretty quickly. If you have been curious about whether investing in a geothermal system would be a good idea for your home cooling or heating in Folly Beach, SC then we would love to give you some information about them to help.

3 Things to Know About Geothermal Heat Pump Systems

You’ve likely heard about geothermal systems before but you may not know many details on them. We want to help fill in some of the gaps. Here are three key things that we think everyone should know about geothermal systems and what makes them so great in modern homes:

  • They Are Energy Efficient: Geothermal systems are known for being incredibly energy efficient when they run. They operate by using a certain amount of electricity to either transfer heat into the home from the ground under the house or pull it out. Because they use the temperatures within the Earth’s crust, which are relatively stable throughout the year, the geothermal system only needs to transfer heat, a far less energy-heavy task.
  • They Offer Comfort Year-Round: Geothermal systems involve the use of a heat pump. If you know anything about heat pumps you know that they are awesome for year-round comfort. Why? Because they are able to offer both heating and cooling throughout the year. This is because they can reverse the flow of refrigerant within the system. Geothermal systems are able to do the same with the liquid that they cycle through their pipes to transfer heat. This means in summer they can transfer heat out of the house and into the ground and, of course, in winter they can pull heat from the ground and deposit it in your home
  • They Are Eco-Friendly: Last but not least geothermal systems are incredibly eco-friendly. They don’t use oil, natural gas, wood, or any other major fuel source to get their job done. They only transfer heat using the temperatures already present within the earth’s crust. This doesn’t harm the planet at all but merely takes advantage of a resource that is readily available under our feet at all times.

Geothermal systems have actually been around for a good long while. Of course, today’s units are far more efficient and effective than the ones that came before.

If you were trying to determine whether a geothermal system is right for your home comfort needs we are here to answer your questions and offer the professional services you need.
