Air Quality & Ductwork

What is Air Duct Cleaning?

Air duct cleaning is the removal of dust, debris, mold, or pest contamination from supply and return ducts, registers, and air handler components. Proper source-removal cleaning uses powerful negative-pressure vacuum equipment with mechanical agitation brushes. The EPA does not recommend routine duct cleaning; it is justified when a specific, verifiable problem exists inside ductwork.

Why it matters to you

Lowcountry homes do have legitimate triggers — renovation dust, rodents in crawlspace ducts, flood water that reached the ductwork, or mold from humidity. But aggressive cleaning of fragile older flex duct or duct board can tear liners and create new leaks.

Practical guidance

Ask to see photos or camera footage of the problem before paying for cleaning, and be wary of very cheap phone offers. If mold or debris is found, fix the cause — leaky returns, crawlspace moisture, or missing filtration — or the problem will return.
