Why it matters to you
Charleston condensers face salt air, pollen, yard debris, and occasional flood water, all of which can foul coils and corrode fins and connections. A dirty or damaged condenser has to work harder through the long cooling season.
Practical guidance
Keep a couple of feet of clearance around the unit and keep plants, mulch, and grass clippings off the coil. Gently rinsing the coil with a garden hose (power off at the outdoor disconnect) helps; leave fin straightening, chemical cleaning, and electrical work to a licensed technician.
