Plumbing & Water Heating

What is Slab Leak?

A slab leak is a water supply or drain line leak beneath a home's concrete foundation slab. Hot-side slab leaks often show up as warm spots on the floor; cold-side leaks as damp spots, lifting flooring, or cracks. Other signs include an unexplained jump in the water bill and a water meter moving with every fixture off.

Why it matters to you

Charleston soils move with moisture, and in Lowcountry humidity a hidden leak becomes a mold problem fast, so slow leaks under slabs and crawlspaces cost more the longer they run.

Practical guidance

Turn off every fixture and watch the water meter; movement means water is going somewhere it shouldn't. Note any warm or damp floor spots and get professional leak detection within days rather than opening the floor yourself.
